Ryu Hyun-jin, the “Korean Monster” who is on track to return to the big leagues, will make his third rehab start for the Toronto Blue Jays.

Ryu will face the Toledo Mud Hens 메이저놀이터 추천 (affiliated with the Detroit Tigers) in a Major League Baseball Triple-A game at 7:05 a.m. on July 16 at Salmon Field in Buffalo, New York, USA.

The Buffalo Bisons, Toronto’s affiliate, announced that “Hyun-jin Ryu will make a rehab start for Buffalo,” marking his third check.

In June of last year, Ryu underwent ligament splicing surgery on his left elbow. Since then, he has been rehabbing and preparing to return to the mound. He threw bullpen pitches in May, live pitches in June, and made his first minor league appearance on May 5.

He started a game against the FCL Tigers (affiliated with the Detroit Tigers) and pitched three innings of four-hit ball, striking out five and allowing one run. Ryu threw 42 pitches and touched 87-88 mph (about 140-142 km/h) on his fastball.

Ryu returned to the mound after four days of rest. He pitched four innings of three-hit ball, striking out one and walking none in a Single-A game against the Tampa Taftons (affiliated with the New York Yankees) in the Florida State League on Tuesday. He touched 88.4 mph on his fastball.

Slowly working his way up, Ryu will make his third check at Triple-A, a slightly higher level. A successful outing will give him the momentum he needs to return to the majors in July.
