The Seoul Metropolitan Government has announced plans to build a dome stadium, causing much concern in the professional baseball world.
The city of Seoul announced plans to build a dome ballpark in Jamsil on the 18th.
The plan comes after Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon, who is currently on a business trip to North America, visited the Rogers Centre in Toronto, Canada on the 16th and declared that the city will build a state-of-the-art sports and convention facility, including a dome ballpark, in the Jamsil area.

According to the announcement made by the Seoul Metropolitan Government, the Jamsil Baseball Stadium will be demolished and a dome ballpark with a closed structure will be built in its place. The total construction cost will be about 500 billion won, and the preferred bidder, Seoul Smart Myspace Park Co. The stadium will be built with more than 30,000 seats that can attract international matches, and various other facilities such as hotels and restaurants will be provided.메이저놀이터
The intention is to build a state-of-the-art baseball stadium that will be the envy of Major League Baseball (MLB).
Construction is scheduled to begin in January 2027 and end in 2031. Under the plan, LG and Doosan will play their home games at Jamsil Stadium until the 2025 season, then play at the temporary stadium for six seasons from 2026 to 2031.
However, there is no alternative to the temporary stadium. LG and Doosan have proposed remodeling Seoul’s Jamsil Main Stadium, which is located near Jamsil Stadium, to create a 20,000-seat temporary stadium. However, this is unlikely to happen, as the Seoul Metropolitan Government cites stability issues.
In that case, existing stadiums in the Seoul metropolitan area should be utilized, but even that is not easy. First of all, LG and Doosan, which are both based in Seoul, cannot move their stadiums.
In addition to Jamsil Stadium, Seoul also has Gocheok Sky Dome, the home of Kiwoom, and it is reportedly not easy to arrange a clubhouse that can be used by another team.
However, it is expected that the Mokdong Stadium, which was used by Nexen (Kiwoom) in the past, will be used as a home stadium for both teams, which will cause a lot of opposition from nearby residents. This is because Mokdong Stadium is adjacent to residential facilities, which brings with it lighting and noise issues.
Initially, LG, Doosan, and the KBO will create a joint task force (TF) to respond. “We will find a solution through communication,” the two clubs and the KBO said.
